Hey folks, Long time….
Well the NFL season is here and we have just gone through week one. In case you missed it, the champs picked up right where they left off with a dominating performance against the Steelers on Thursday night. They started the night off by thumbing their nose at Roger Goodell and the entire NFL after the Deflate-Gate decision giving Tom Brady the go-ahead to play since his suspension was lifted. Then the Patriots handed Pittsburgh a season opening loss 28-21.
The Rex Ryan era begins in Buffalo with a pounding of the AFC runner up from a year ago, 27-14 over Indianapolis in Orchard Park NY. My buddy Jon Olson was at that game and he had nothing but nice things to say about the atmosphere in that stadium. Thoughts he shared on an impromptu blab tonight with yours truly. Check the Replay, it was a quick hitter, just about an hour but I managed to get our new friend JS Gilbert and my partner in crime Brian “scooter” Cullen up on Screen as well. The show started with a rant by me and finished with a promise of more broadcasts during the week leading up to the “Main Event” Sunday Nights on The Sports Nerds. We are pretty much the only Sports show on blab, and I hope to make it the go-to sports show on that platform before it all said and done.
Wrapping up the scores and my thoughts from week one in the NFL, the team that impressed me the most was the San Francisco 49’ers with their dominating performance against the Vikings on Monday night. Carlos Hyde had his coming out party with 26 carries for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns. Adrian Peterson, in his return to the NFL after a year-long suspension was not his old self and wasn’t even a factor when it was all said and done. Tony Romo took his game to a new level against the Giants Sunday night, driving 72 yards in the final 1:27 of the game to throw the winning score to Jason Whitten to lead the Cowboys to a 27-26 victory.
My disappointment in my two favorite teams continue into 2015 as both my Browns and Bucs fell to the Jets and Titans respectively. Johnny Manziel came in relief of an injured Josh McCown and failed miserably, not able to spark the offense and showing just how not ready he is to play in this league. I said it after the draft last year, and I will say it again, Johnny is not a good NFL quarterback, much like Tebow, he is a great college QB, but in the NFL his lack of size, and his tunnel vision is going to prevent him from being successful in this league. As for the Bucs, it isn’t Jameis Winston the Bucs have to blame for that loss to the Titans, it was the defense. How can one of the original architects of the “Tampa 2” defense Lovie Smith, be so unprepared for their first NFL game of the season, one they had months to prepare for and scheme against. Lovie knew it would be #1 draft pick vs. #2 draft pick and he had to show the world that they made the right choice, but instead of focusing on that aspect he should have been worried about his defense. It was a horrible display, and the inept play of that defense made Marcus Mariota look like Peyton Manning in his prime. I am disgusted and am questioning the hire of Lovie Smith in Tampa. I feel that maybe the game has already passed him by and he wont know how to catch up.
Well that’s it for today, maybe have more as the week progresses. I plan to post more now that the season is in full bloom, but no worries, we still have MLB to talk about, NCAA Football, the NASCAR chase for the cup, and yes, the NHL season is coming, so there will be plenty to talk about as the year progresses towards the winter months. I’m psyched I’m pumped, and I’m ready for it all.
